Sync between DB Enterprise edition and Standard edition

Haytham MostafaJun 17 2015 — edited Jun 18 2015

Hello Experts,

I need your solid experience with the following issue:

Customer have 2 sites (Prod + DR), the Production site : Oracle 11gR2 Enterprise edition and the DR site still not working.

The customer want to create synchronization between the Prod's storage and the DR's storage. His question is: " I want to buy Standard edition DB to implement it in the DR site but I don't know the Prod's database will be read on the standard edition or not ? ".

My recommendation to him was:

1- The synchronization between the Prod's storage and the DR's storage will not be efficient with you as a fail-over solution and because this sync solution depend on transport the new db files (data files, archive files ... etc) from the Prod site to DR site without apply the changes in the DR's database (like the Datagaurd solution) and I think Oracle is not support solutions like that.

2- You don't need to buy another license we can configure the DR site by implementing “Dataguard” as Physical standby database.

So, what do you think dear experts I need you support .

Thanks & best regards

Haytham Mostafa
