Switch to beq connect

Hey, I´ve read the doucment: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/goldengate/overview/usingoraclegoldengate11gwithoracle-1539665.pdf

It states: The use of BEQ database connections for data capture in environments using ASM has shown performance improvements.

I have no clue what it means. Who can explain, how to switch from sql net to a beq connection ?
