Swap and Sar output

807557Aug 13 2009 — edited Aug 19 2009
Hi Gurus,

I am really confused about the sar and swap commands output. I am hoping someone would solve the mystery.

Server got 64 G memory and 64 G Swap.

prtdiag | grep Memory

Memory size: 65536 Megabytes

swap -l
swapfile dev swaplo blocks free
/dev/md/dsk/d1 85,1 16 134221424 134221424

134221424/2=67110712
67110712/1024=65537

Before starting the application

sar displays the result

00:00:00 freemem freeswap
00:15:00 6766893 225388527
00:30:00 6713158 223969209
00:45:00 6686629 223113980

for example if I take first freeswap value 225388527/2=112694263

112694263/1024
110052
110052/1024
107

sar is giving me free swap 107 G which cant be right I have swap 64G only.

After Starting the application

sar displays the following result

07:00:01 4108450 124494290
07:05:01 4101500 124335247
07:10:01 4093418 124143416

for example if take first number 124494290/2=62247145
62247145/1024 = 60788
60788/1024 = 59G

59G makes sense

Any idea?

Thanks a lot,

Sohnaeo
