Sungard Banner APEX users - how do you see Banner schemas in APEX ?

The DBA created a db link to APEX but I have to create views over any Banner tables/views that I want to include in my APEX application. Plus, I have to grant permissions to apex_public_user so those views can do any updating.

I would like to know if there is a better way to have access to Banner tables and views in APEX so I don't have (1) this layer of views and (2) excessive grants to sensitive tables.
