We have x4170 M2 servers that came with 8GB (2 each of 1Rx4 PC3L 10600R - Registered ECC).
I am scavenging memory and some of the other folks here have some 1GB DDR3 (1Rx8 PC3L 10600E - Unbuffered ECC).
I can get 2 (blue & white banks) out of the 3 memory channels to recognize the 1GB modules for a total of 6GB.
When I populate the other 3 banks (black) for memory channel 3 (for as projected total of 9GB), the system will not boot.
When I access the ILOM, it is showing "fault.memory.intel.dimm.population-invalid" and "SPX86-8001-NJ."
I have read everything I can and ALL the memory configuration data for these boxes talks about is DIMM Rank, saying that all three channels (9 banks) can be populated with Single Rank DIMM (which these are).
It says nothing about ECC Unbuffered vs. ECC Registered.
