SunCC vs GCC

807575Jun 27 2008 — edited Jun 27 2008
Hello,

1., We are starting a new C++ development project on Solaris 10/Intel Xeon (Sun Fire X4150) platform and our applications need very good integer performance. What are the pros/cons for choosing Sun Studio 12 vs the latest GCC (4.3.x?) compiler set considering performance only?

2., What are the best combination of compiler options to use to get all speed optimisations available for Sun Studio 12? I have read the document at http://developer.amd.com/assets/07-998_AMD-tipsheet-Fhr.pdf, but it refers to AMD and not Xeon - would it be different from Xeon?

3., We want to use boost 1.35 and potentially the ACE framework - can we expect good compatibility with Sun Studio 12?

Regards,
Zoltan
