Sun Ultra 24 CPU fan - bogus fail message

I have a Sun Ultra 24. When booting, it says the CPU fan is failing, and wants to shut down. I looked at the system, and this error message appears to be wrong; the fan inside the heatsink mounted on top of the CPU is spinning, as is the case fan.

I saw another post elsewhere here saying that it's a BIOS problem, and that updating the BIOS will help. I tried that, but no dice. Suggestions?
