We recently had a drive go into an "impending failure" state on our 6180 array, FW revision 07.84.44.10. It was a data disk and part of a Virtual Disk. Before replacing the physical drive, it was manually failed as per Service Advisor procedure. The problem is that at some point in the replacement process the drive was allocated in CAM as an Array Spare; how or why this happened is not known. Otherwise the physical replacement occurred as expected and the drive is healthy.
This meant that the automatic hotspare copy-back did not happen although the drive had been replaced.
So the question is how do we force the array to completed the copy back and restore the virtual disk to completeness?
