Sun Spud HDD brackets
807557Jan 14 2008 — edited Aug 13 2008I recently purchased a low end Sun Ultra 40 to use as my home backup and media server for my family. I must say, I was very impressed with the design, but I have one problem: I can't use any of the SATA 1Tb Hard disks I ordered due to their lack of brackets.
Apparently what I need is a 540-6562 spud hdd bracket: http://mxsun.stores.yahoo.net/5406562.html
Unfortunately, these are $70.00 each, making the storage media almost as expensive as it would be if I purchased it from Sun ;-)
What I'm wondering is, would the much cheaper 540-3024 work ( http://www.memoryx.net/5403024.html )? I'm guessing not since the lists of supported systems are disjoint.
I (now) realize using non-Sun hard disk media isn't supported, but I've already purchased the drives (this is my first time as a Sun customer), so I need to do something with them. As a last resort I will be building my own brackets, but I would really prefer not to do this.
