Sun Ray - Windows Terminal Services - VPN
807578May 15 2007 — edited May 16 2007Hi,
I hope I have the right forum, I am new to the SDN. ( Please feel free to point me in the right direction if need be :-) )
The company I work for runs a small Sun Ray/Windows setup. They use Sun Ray's as a thin client displaying Windows terminal services as the desktop.
We also have a remote office that connects through a secure VPN.
The host office has about 40 Sun Rays and the Solaris server is running smoothly, as is the terminal server.
The client office has around 8 Sun Rays at the moment. The problem they are having is the speed of the Sun Ray's (screen refresh slow). The link between the offices is (according to stats) not under any stress yet and is only minimally utilized. Some staff claim that they can "make a cup of coffee" waiting for a full screen window (such as webmail browser) to come up fully on the screen. They also have a lot of issues with type keeping up with them.
It makes sense that there will be a bit of latency between the offices but the amount seems way too much.
My question is, has somebody here worked in a similar setup?
Did they have similar issues?
What kind of measures could someone recommend to improve the performance at the client end?
Is QOS something to take into consideration?
Thank you for your input if you have any.
Cheers,
Kyle
