Sun FireV480/490 server: problems booting from USB disk

807557Nov 4 2009 — edited Nov 12 2009
Hi there.

I'm facing some problems booting my Sun Fire V480/490 SPARC servers from a USB disk. Installed OS is Solaris 10 update 6.
The OBP release installed is the latest 4.30.4 (patch 142702-01). We are using an USB 2.0 extension card from Addonics (model #: ADUSB2PCI) which is marked as verified. Under Solaris everything works just fine the controller and attached storage is recognized and working.

During boot up testing phase the USB 2.0 Host Controller seems to be unrecognized and only the internal USB controller is recognized. Contrary to the Solaris USB FAQ (http://www.sun.com/io_technologies/usb/USB-Faq.html#General) point 27, I don't see my USB storage running the "show-disks" command neither when connected to USB 2.0 extension card nor to internal 1.1 USB controller.

Any ideas anyone?
