Sun Fire X4540, cannot set SP IP address

C. S.Jun 9 2016 — edited Jul 3 2016

Our X4540 has the fault light on and the rear fault light on.  I'd like to find out what's going on...  The system will POST fine and boot into the OS, but I am unable to access the ILOM.  In the BIOS settings there is a place to change the SP IP address (Powering On and Configuring BIOS Settings) but it will not let me change it, maybe it's related to the fault?  When i first looked at the LAN settings, the IP Assignment was set to Static, 192.168.1.40.  When i went to update this, i entered the new address, netmask, and gateway, and selected the "Commit" option.  Then i selected the "Refresh" option and nothing had changed.  i tried rebooting and still the address was 192.168.1.40.  I went to the LAN settings again and change the assignment to DHCP instead (we don't have a DHCP server), this changed the SP IP address to 0.0.0.0.  I tried to change back to Static and enter the IP i would like it to have, i selected "Commit" several times but it will not stick, it is just stuck on 0.0.0.0 now...
