Sun Enterprise 4500 server wont boot
807557Apr 26 2009 — edited May 1 2009Hey guys, I just recently got a Sun e4500 server, I've never had a sun before so Im not used to it and I'm having booting issues. I installed debian 5.0 on it (and I have solaris 10 downloading now, going to try that later) but I know nothing about OpenBoot, and cannot get the machine to boot from its hard drive. But debian was able to locate and install to the hard drive just fine. The currents specs are:
10x Sparc (some ultra sparc, not sure which are which) cpus
Supposedly 8 gigs of ram, although OpenBoot says theres 9, so Il just go with 9 gigs
2x gigabit fiber cards
2x fiber channel cards
1x frame buffer
Looks like 5 scsi cards, some are normal external scsi conectors and some say "mini"
2x 10/100 nics
1x scsi dvd drive
1x 70gb scsi hard drive
And I think that's it, if more info/more detailed info is needed just ask
So basically I need to find out how to boot the machine, I have googled all over the place and found lots of commands for OpenBoot but I have had no success, also is debian the "wrong" OS to run on this machine? I have been using linux for a long time and debian is one of my favourite distros but if there are "better" (for the hardware) distros out there for this machine I would love to hear it :)
Thanks in advance :)
