Sun certified Programmer - (CX-310-055) vs (CX-310-035)

Hi everybody, I just wanna know what is the basic diferences between these two tests, can anyone help me?

My friend read this book http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews18661.html and scored 93% in the CX-310-035. Can i at least pass the new CX-310-055 just reading this book?

I heard that the older certifieds are valid about 1,5 years until the new certified arrives, is that true?
