Suffering from intermittent ORA-12514 errors

mbobakFeb 22 2011 — edited Aug 25 2011
Hi all,

Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 RAC on 4 node RAC cluster running RHEL 5.3 x86-64.

We are currently suffering from intermittent ORA-12514 "TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect descriptor" errors.

The problem appears to be that one of the SCAN listeners, LISTENER_SCAN1, does not have all our service names registered, even though the other two SCAN listeners do have all our service names registered. So, intermittently, about 1/3 of the time for the service names missing from LISTENER_SCAN1, the connection attempt encounters ORA-12514.

I've tried repeatedly restarting and bouncing SCAN listeners. It's interesting to note, that even across bounces, and having the SCAN listeners move from one node to another, the problem remains with LISTENER_SCAN1, regardless of which node it happens to be running on at any given moment.

Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, or suggestions?

Thanks,

-Mark

PS SR has been opened, but analyst does not seem to be making much progress.
