Subtracting time end from time start

I'm trying to get end time subtracted from start time

Here is the query:

SELECT TO_CHAR(service_end,'HH24:MI:SS') "EOD", TO_CHAR(service_start,'HH24:MI:SS') "SOD"

FROM response

So hypothetically (although this won't work), should give me the time
SELECT (TO_CHAR(service_end,'HH24:MI:SS') - TO_CHAR(service_start,'HH24:MI:SS')) "Total Time"
FROM response
