Stuck at grub> prompt

807559Feb 23 2010 — edited Jul 8 2010
Hello folks,

I've got Solaris 10 U7 installed on Sun Thumper 4540 (x86). The system boots of ZFS rpool and been working fine for 5 months. The other day i had to reboot the system and for some reason the system got stuck at grub> prompt. There were no changes made to the system prior to this reboot. I decided to see if i can enter parameters manually, so i tried to enter "findroot (pool_rpool,0,a) but get an error message "Error 15: File not found". So any commands i enter at this prompt i get this error message. The only way i can get the system to boot is by booting from original Solaris 10 DVD, interrupt the install menu which drops me at grub> prompt. Then i can enter findroot and other kernel commands and the system boots. What happened to the system and how can i fix grub ?

Thank you very much
