Stripping HTML tags

Hi all.

I have been told that it may be possible for me to strip out html tags from a html using xml technology. Am very new to this area and havent got the slighest clue as to how it is done or what i need to use. Could someone possible explain as to what i need to download, how to use it and anything else that might be useful. Basically, i want to obtain important text from html which means i dont need any tags or javascript. Many thanks in advance.
