String Vs Number comparision: Which is fast searched

Deal All,

I am using 11g, and I have two columns in my table, One is VARCHAR2 and other is NUMBER. Both the columns can be used to search the results.

So I want to know which column is searched fast or for better performance which column i need to use.

As I already done the preanalysis and I am getting the same explain plan for both the ways. Please clarify me on this.
