Strange cache behaviour

I am using Java 1.6u1 on Vista Business. When I run a jnlp file for the first time it downloads ok, runs the application, and places an icon on the desktop. All good. But when I open the cache viewer the application isn't there. When I then double click the desktop icon the application downloads again and I can now see it in the viewer.

Also when I update the server with new code and run the app it doesn't download the update. But if I close the app and run it again a second time it does download.

I uninstalled all 1.6 versions and reinstalled 1.6u1, but still have the same issues.

I wonder if any one else has experienced this problem or point me in the right direction?
