Storage Connect: Nexenta ?

speedbump49Jul 18 2012 — edited Jul 18 2012
I'm back after about a year, 3.0.0 didn't go so well in my evaluation, but I'm retooling my lab VM environment with 3.1.1 to give it another look for the next while. Got the OVM Manager up yesterday, I see the Storage Connect plugin selection has not progressed too far. I know that Oracle's position is that the customer should be putting pressure on the storage vendor to build the plug-in, but such an approach is doomed, chicken and egg, perceived competitors, priorities etc..

Lets face it Oracle, the customer should not need to do marketing effort for OVM with any storage vendor, Oracle needs to internally and externally socialize the benefit of storage vendors building a storage connect plug-in. Nexenta for example is a nice low cost feature rich modern storage solution. That's what we have in the lab. It would be nice to see how OVM would operate with the managed storage api implemented.

Just saying, Oracle should recognize that their own storage solutions are not the only choice in the real world and that a OVM VM platform with a different storage vendor such as Nextenta would be a win and drive business for Oracle.
