Static library vs Shared library

I statically linked a C program with the OCI static library libclntst10.a. Why the shared libraries libclntsh.so, libnnz10.so and libociei.so is still required? Is there any way to compile a real static executable using OCI libraries?

Using Oracle Client 10.1.0.3.
