Startup hanging after database mount

769578May 11 2010 — edited May 11 2010
Hi All
I am running 11g on XP SP3. I have noticed on a number of occassions that if I have to make a system alter and restart the instance, the system shutdowns fine, mounts back and just stays hanging on "database mounted" I have left it for between 5 and 10 minutes and still no response. I am having to physically restart the OS for the instance to mount normally again

Has anyone experienced this before? I am seeing this happening now more times than often and it is becoming a pain to restart my computer just to get the instance back up.

My steps are either

SHUTDOWN IMMEDIATE

or

STARTUP FORCE

These would normally follow some sort of ALTER... statement.

The alter is successful but then on restart, all the files load fine ie redo logs, SGA etc but then it hangs on
DATABASE MOUNTED and wont move from there
