Oracle Database Discussions

Hello,

First off, I am not a DBA. I'm a manager and I'm working on a Service Availability project. I want to collect the startup and shutdown times for our Oracle database to report database availability and figure it in as a dependency for other services. My question is, where would I find the log entries that clearly define the startup and shutdown times of the database and what is the exact language I'm looking for? I know this is a very general (and vague) question, but I'm not sure exactly how to ask it, so hopefully this is a starting point and if someone is kind enough to help and requires more info, then I can provide as requirements are defined.
