standby database cancel hungs

hi all,

we have dataguard setup on 10gr2 version on windows. now primary and standby are in out of sync there is large gap. so we want to perform roll forward.

so while canceling recovery mode

> ALTER DATABASE RECOVER MANAGED STANDBY DATABASE CANCEL;

this command is in hung status. not at all completing. could you please suggest and solution please....
