Stacked column multiple series is acting strangely

Hi,

I am having an issue creating a stacked column report with multiple series in Apex 4.2.1.

I have a non-stacked report with the two series showing correctly:

I have one series to show applications and one series to show approvals.

When I convert this to a stacked column report it is stacking not only the four components of the series, but also the series are stacked on top of each other:

Has anyone seen this happen before? From what I have researched it should still be having the multiple series as multiple stacks – can anyone help?
