ssmon, ssadmin and ssconfig usernames and passwords

807557May 16 2008
I have just installed the StorageTek 3000 Family Storage Products--Related Software 2.4 onto a solaris 8 operating system for my server and am having issues with the users ssmon, ssadmin and ssconfig. These users were supposedly created in the installation script when running the pkgadd -d . SUNWsscs. Reading the documentation it states to set the passwords for theses user using passwd username.

What i would like to know is are the usernames just created locally for the software or have these users been created on the server i have installed the software onto? Does the software need these usernames names to be valid so that they can log in and out of the server? As i have tried changing there passwords and login into the server using a telnet session with no success.

Should these users be able to login into the server? How can i find out if these user have been created and what there current passwords are?

You may be able to tell that i am new to Unix and have very little experience so any help would be much appreciated

Thanks
