db: 12.1.0.2.0

os : Oracle Linux

connected with user oracle, who is the owner of oracle installation

sqlplus sys as sysdba

ORA-01017: Invalid username/password; login denied

usually we press enter key and logged into sql prompt. if I enter password, i am able to login succssfull when i get such error..

i have a system on which it works without password, i deinstalled dbs, oracle software correctly and reinstalled db software, dbs, then it did not work. same installation process..though..  it does not go well when we apply patches.ex: datapatch.. datapatch execution is failing due to password requirement.. how can we make sqlplus sys as sysdba works all the time without entering password i..e just with pressing entery key... i made os_authent_prefix ='' then restarted db, it worked only once.. but subsequently password is required.. can some one help me plz.. i need to run datapatch, patches..

thanks in advance..
