Sqlplus client 10g can not connect to 12c

Hi ALL,

Our 3rd party apps using sqlplus client 10g, is connecting to our database 12c (12.2.0.1)

We encounter error > ORA-28040: No matching authentication protocol”

I tried to set sqlnet.ora to value > SQLNET.ALLOWED_LOGON_VERSION_SERVER=8

The ora-28040 was resolved, but the password is not able to connect

Please help, why password in invalidated?
