SQLPLUS "as sysdba" Login

Hello

When I log on with "SQLPLUS <UserName><Password>@<DB-SID> AS SYSDBA" I can type any symbols for <UserName> and <Password> and I get successfully access.
It's a Oracle DB Release 10.2.0.4.0.

I've no idea why.
