I recently installed Oracle SQL Developer 4.0.3 on a windows 7 64-bit computer that had been using Oracle SQL Developer 1.0.5. While using version 4.0.3 I am able to open .sql files by using the File>Open commands.
However, when I try open a .sql file from my desktop (via double clicking the file) it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, I tried to find a pattern but was unsuccessful. Most of the time I get the error (sqldeveloper64W.exe has stopped working). This is incredibly strange to me, because I can verify that the files that work and the files that do not work are both .sql files. I am trying to open the file by having the default file association on the sql developer 4.0.3 application (sqldeveloper.exe), but for some of the .sql files, the file association does not seem to want to "stick".
To make matters a bit more complex, it seems that even when I can get the sqldeveloper window to open, I have never been able to get a second tab to open. In other words, if sqldeveloper 4.0.3 is open, I cannot double click on a .sql file and get it to automatically open in a new tab, instead what happens is I get the same (sqldeveloper64W.exe has stopped working) error.
i have tried this solution (https://community.oracle.com/thread/2601719) but I cannot seem to open a second SQL file (via a double click) when SQL Developer 4 is open with another SQL. Below is the error I get.
