SQLdeveloper can't connect via VPN, OK on LAN

Connecting via TNS to Oracle Db's on the corporate network.

Works perfectly in all test cases when physically connected to the LAN, fails in all test cases with "Io Exception .... Vendor Code 17002" when on VPN. All other network functions are good on VPN (never encountered any problem similar with an app in last 4 years) Below are versions in use. Please suggest some remedy or at least avenue of investigation.

SQLDeveloper 1.2.1 (32.13)
InstantClient 10.1 (Mac)
Cisco VPN 4.9.01 (0080)
MacOSX 10.4.10
