SQL SYSDATE dynamic calculation explanation

Can someone explain to me what this statement is doing in lay man terms???

Are there any good web sites out there that can help explain Oracle SYSDATE math logic???

Here's the SQL...

WHERE CALENDAR.CALENDAR_DT BETWEEN NEXT_DAY(trunc(SYSDATE-12),'Saturday')
AND NEXT_DAY(trunc(SYSDATE-5),'Saturday')
