Hi,
I am quite new to the Oracle world so please go easy on me!
I need to connect to various Oracle databases via SQL Developer. 2 current issues, that may or may not be related.
1: When on company ethernet I have to unplug my network cable and then open SQL Developer whilst unplugged, then plug back in network cable. Otherwise I get the error "Status : Failure -Test failed: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection". (I found that solution in this thread
998671 This isn't really a satisfactory solution so any ideas please let me know?
Possibly related?...
2: When on a VPN I cannot get past the "Status : Failure -Test failed: IO Error: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" error. I have tried opening SQL Developer when not connected to the VPN etc but I can't find a solution. I can ping the host fine.
I have been googling for a solution for a while and often see mentions of tnsnames.ora files and tnsping, to be honest I don't understand what these are and nobody else in the office has had to do any of that stuff! As I say, nobody else in the office seems to have the problem, the only difference is that my machine is brand new and running OS Lion whereas they are all on OS Snow Leopard.
Massive thanks in advance for your help Oracle guys!
