SQL Developer typing extremely slow

Win XP Sp 3
Fresh install of SQL Developer 2.1.1.64
JRE 1.6.007

Typing anything into a worksheet has a 3-7 second delay, rendering this pretty much unusable for anything serious.

I've tried clearing
Tools - Dtaabase - Worksheet - Default path to look for scripts as per other threads and also setting it to a valid directory - no change.

Disabling or slowing down Completion insight doesn't help either.

Does anyone know what else might be causing this?
