SQL Developer Connections view is missing

The Connections tab on my SQL Developer that normally appears on the left side has gone missing for the last couple of days. Even after clicking View -> Connections nothing appears on the screen. Hence i'm unable to browse through tables and view. Selecting all other options in the View menu like Reports, Files, etc does open the appropriate tab.

I'd deleted the entire SQL Developer folder and unzipped it freshly from a zip file again. But the Connections tab just doesn't show up. Can someone provide some clues?
