SQL Developer 2.1 - 100% cpu usage

I've recently tried SQL Developer 2.1.1.64 and 2.1.0.63, and both of them seem to suffer from the same problem - at some point shortly after starting them, their CPU consumption jumps and they start consuming all of the spare CPU capacity on my PC.

Has anyone else encountered this, and if so do they know any fixes for the problem?
