yesterday a colleague setup an "Oracle 18c Express Edition Release 18.0.0.0.0 - Production" on a virtual machine available to me via VPN. When I try to define the connection to that database, the Connection Test dialog pops up and the progress bar just progresses and progresses and ... progresses. Infinitely. When I just save that connection and hit Connect from the connection's context menu, SQL developer gets unresponsive.
I tried to telnet the database (telnet host.domain.tld 1521) and it seems that the connection is established.
Also dbForge's Data Comparison tool seems to be able to connect, since it complains that the "Oracle Database 18c Express Edition Release 18.0.0.0.0 - Production is not currently supported." So this tool gets the database version.
I followed Jeff Smith's advise to get the Thread Dump and I think the application might suffer a deadlock (see next post).
