dear DBA'S
we have oracle 8.0.6.0.0 enterprise edition..

here i used to regulary monitor the temp segments .. since smon is not cleaning up, it used to increase normally ...

when iam restarting the database ,smon starts to clean up and slowly the number will come down .. but at that time if any users is active , they used to get either sort segment request or enqueue wait event ...


i used to montior the tem segemnts with the following query:

select count(*) from dba_extents where segemnt_type='TEMPORARY';
------------
53000


for this value it takes 1 1/2 hours to clean up till that my users are waiting ....

plz suggest me a better solution inorder to encounter this issue..
