Solaris8 boot CD does not boot

807559Mar 28 2001 — edited Dec 23 2001
Hi all,

I just downloaded the free Solaris8 CD's for Intel (release 01/01) and
found that the first CD did not boot on any PC here. We only tried
machines that are known to be able to boot CD's - we even tried bootable
CD's other than the Solaris8 one and it works... we even burned another
Solaris8 boot CD and retried to no avail.

By scanning this forum I found others to have the same problem but the
answers were usually "your PC can not boot a CD". Hmm...

I rather have the impression the boot CD from the free binary license
has a flaw that prevents the CD boot.

Are there others that can confirm this (I'd rather have a bootable CD
than the old fashioned DCA diskette with which btw I can of course boot
Solaris8 ;-).

Are there others that can boot from the free binary license Solaris8 boot
CD (what a name :-).

Is there somebody that has ordered the Media Kit for Solaris8 on Intel?
Is the first install CD from the kit **really** bootable?

Question to Sun people: is there any difference between the free version
and the Media Kit other than the Bonus CD?

TIA and best regards
