Solaris10 installer detects a AIC-7901 as a AIC-7896(cadp) then crashes

Our IBM eServer xSeries 306 computer with an Adaptec AIC-7901 scsi chip and a IBM_ESXS ST336607LW LVD/SE 36 GB system drive crashes Solaris 9/10 during the kernel devices loading stage. The installer runs the "detect hardware" but crashes when starting the newly configed kernel based on its detected hardware.

The "installer configuration assistant" detects the onboard AIC-7901 scsi chip as a AIC-7896 chip so the cadp driver was selected. This driver crashes the machine. When I installed an IDE drive and deleted the cadp device, the machine was able to be installed. From the manpages, the adpu320 supports the AIC-7902 chip while the AIC-7896 is supported by cadp driver. This explains the crash. From what I gather on the net, the AIC-7901 is a single channel version of AIC-7902 so the adpu320 driver should{?} support the AIC-7901 chipset.

This may sound naive but can the adpu320 driver use the AIC-7901 chip? If so, how can I do this. The driver might be hardwired to only detect this chip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Thanks!
