Solaris problems
807559Apr 7 2007 — edited Apr 10 2007I am a developer, looking to test Solaris 10 and write apps for it. I installed Solaris on my Averatec laptop (sempron 2600+, 256 MBs ram)
I did the basic installation. During the configuration process, it asked for xorg or xsun. I chose xsun and had it run a window test. It froze up and wouldn't let me do anything. The dialog had warned that it might to that, so I suppose it wasn't too big of a problem. I restarted and it went into the console. When I pressed backspace, the OS would add ^H rather than delete characters, which was really annoying. I probably have to change the default keyboard settings, but I haven't had to do this in any other operating system. I installed Solaris onto a partition, but I didn't choose for it to install Grub to the MBR. Now I have to go through Grub to boot into Windows, which is a problem because I plan on uninstalling Solaris, since it's not working correctly. I suppose the operating system isn't meant to be tested on laptops.
