807559Oct 7 2001 — edited Oct 8 2001
I am installing a multi boot. I followed the instructions partitions etc. Everytime I install Solaris 8 on a fresh partition I am receiving the following;

The / file system (/dev/rdisk/c1d0s0) is being checked
Can't stack /dev/rdsk/c1d0s0
/dev/rdsk/c1d0s0: CAN'T Check File System
/dev/rdsk/c1d0s0: Unexpected Inconsistency; Run fsck Manually

Warning - unable to repair the / filesystem. Run fsck
manually (fsck -F ufs /dev/rdsk/c1d0s0). Exit the shell when done to continue the boot process.

Type control-d to proceed with normal starting
(or give root password)

* I entered the root pw ans performed the required manual actrion and got the following

Can't stat /dev/rdsk/c1d0s0

when skipped I get:

mount: /dev/dsk/c1d0s0 or /, no such file or directory
failed to open /etc/coreadm, confsyseventd: unable to open daemon lock file '/etc/sysevent/syseventd_lock': 'Read-only file system' Configuring /dev and /devices devfadm: mkdir failed for /dev 0x1ed: Read-only file system devfsadm: open failed for /dev/.devfsadm_dev.lock: Read-only file system.
Configuring the /dev directory (compatability devices)
/etc/rcS.d/S50devfsadm: /tmp/sock2path.66: cannot create ln; cannot create /dev/fb: Read-only file system

INIT: warning: cannot open /etc/initpipe
INIT: Cannot create /var/adm/utmpx
INIT: failed write of utmpx entry: " "
INIT: failed write of utmpx entry: " "
INIT: SINGLE USER MODE

Type control-d to proceed with normal startup,
(or give root pw - which wont do me any good since I do not know the probelm.. so I hit control-d)

ENTER RUN LEVEL (0-6, s or S) [3}:

Everything else loops, this is the 8th time I have tried this initial installation in multiple combination of paritions and setups. Same exact message....
