Solaris 11.3 link aggregation incompatible with CISCO etherchannel and IEEE802ax 2008 (formerly 802.

user10124410May 26 2016 — edited May 27 2016

Hi All,

I am trying to setup a trunk aggregation IEEE802.1ax - 2008 (formerly IEEE802.3ad) for use the underlying link of LDM vsw service.

PLEASE don't post with info about the defunct Solaris 8 Sun Trunking product!!

Having setup the aggregation with.

dladm create-aggr -l net4 -l net5 aggr0

and setting an etherchannel on a CISCO 6509 to always on with dot1q encapsulation and all ports in the same switch module.

No traffic whatsoever i can be received over the aggregation.

I simply does not work!

It does not matter whether I setup vlans, vnics or simply put IP on the aggregate nothing will enable traffic over the link

Either

there is a fundamental flaw solaris 11.3 that means it doesn't support IEEE802.1ax 2008  link aggregation (unlikely)

or

CISCO etherchannel cannot operate IEEE802.1ax 2008 compatible mode (equally unlikely)

or

there is some more subtle going on the switch or Solaris side that dropping or black holing traffic.

The links work in unbundled stand alone access mode which proves the links work in layer 1 with a fixed vlan tag set on the cisco end.

The hardware is a T7-1 with ixgbe and igb (quad port) nics.

Has anyone successfully used a solaris 11 trunk mode aggregation with CISCO switch and if so setup did they use?
