Solaris 10: Remote Display of JDS rel 3 and CDE over Xwindows
807557Jun 14 2005 — edited Jun 14 2005On an Ultra 5 running Solaris 10, I want to start a session of either Java Desktop System Release 3 or CDE and display it on another system running an Xwindows server (running on a Windows box, but I don't think that matters). I also don't want to add a VNC layer to the picture.
The network communications are configured properly and are working fine as I can run Xwindows applications over it without a problem. The only thing to do before hand on the Ultra 5 is to set the DISPLAY environment variable (as expected).
What I would like to know is what commands to give at the command line to start the Java Desktop System Release 3 session to display the login screen on the system running the Xwindows server so I can run the full JDS from a remote client.
I would also like to know the same thing to run CDE this way.
I've tried a number of things which don't work so therefore this post. I've also looked around quite a bit for this information in a number of manuals and of course on the web and cannot find this information anywhere. I'm surprised because I would think a lot of people would want to do this, and it shouldn't be that hard to do!
Any tips/pointers are appreciated! Thanks.
