Solaris 10 login bounce back to login screen

I have installed Solaris 10 on VMware and all was working correctly. I am new with Solaris 10. I boot to the login screen and enter root and pw. It appears that I am logging on but then I get bounced back to the login screen. What do I need to do to clear this so the logon can complete?
