Solaris 10 internet setup problem
807557May 10 2006 — edited May 14 2006I am totally new to Unix and I'm beginning to create a bald patch with all my head scratch on this problem!!
I have just installed Solaris 10 1/06 onto my laptop. The laptop is setup to multiboot either Solaris or Windows XP via GRUB. That all works fine.
But no internet. Mozilla can't access any sites.
When I was installing Solaris (interactive), though, the install totally missed out the Network connectivity screens which I was expecting.
The system doesn't seem to have done ANY configuration to enable me to access the internet.
When I use ifconfig -a all I get specified is the loopback adapter and 'No interface found'. The only IP address I can find is 127.0.0.1 against the loopback.
If I run list_devices I get 'Device-maps not found'. Also I can't find a resolv.conf file.
My broadband provider is NTL with the ethernet cable going into the RJ-45 LAN jack from a set top box. The laptop is also not part of a network.
The laptop has a AMD Athlon 64 processor 3700+.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get the internet up and running, while I still have some hair left!!
I think the problem is my ethernet network adapter is not being recognised by Solaris, it's a Realtek RTL8169/8110. Tried to alias it in the driver_aliases file(as recommended on another thread but that didn't work)
