Solaris 10 does not see new RAM

868654Jun 14 2011 — edited Jun 15 2011
Hello,

We have Solaris 10 (SunOS solaris 5.10 Generic_142910-17 i86pc i386 i86pc) on Compaq ProLiant ML350 G3 server (yes, that's old).

Originally it had 1024MB of RAM, but recently added 2x512 PC2100 DDR modules. Currently, BIOS counts up to 2 gigs of memory in POST screen, but Solaris seems like ignoring it:

#prtconf -v | grep Memory
Memory size: 1024 Megabytes

Some more info:

#prtdiag
System Configuration: Compaq ProLiant ML350 G3
BIOS Configuration: Compaq D14 09/15/2004

==== Processor Sockets ====================================

Version Location Tag
-------------------------------- --------------------------
Intel Xeon Proc 1

==== Memory Device Sockets ================================

Type Status Set Device Locator Bank Locator
------- ------ --- ------------------- --------------------
DDR in use 1 DIMM 01
DDR in use 1 DIMM 02
DDR empty 2 DIMM 03
DDR empty 2 DIMM 04

==== On-Board Devices =====================================

==== Upgradeable Slots ====================================

ID Status Type Description
--- --------- ---------------- ----------------------------
1 available PCI-X PCI Slot 1
2 available PCI-X PCI Slot 2
3 available PCI-X PCI Slot 3
4 available PCI-X PCI Slot 4
5 in use PCI PCI Slot 5
-----
So it says that two slots are empty, though in reality they aren't!

Currently (yet) I have no possibility to boot some kind LiveCD to check if, for example, Linux can see the memory - server is at distant office of a client...

What could this mean? Do I have to make Solaris to "refresh" hardware configuration somehow or should I try to reinstall it..?

Thank you!
