Solaris 10 build 72 install issues on SiI3112 SATA drive

I am attempting to install Solaris 10 build 72 onto a Western Digital 120GB SATA drive (WD1200JD) connected to an ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe mobo which uses the Silicon Image SiI3112A SATA controller.
I have done the following:
1. updated the mobo BIOS to the latest version available (1013)
2. disabled RAID support in the BIOS
3. formatted the entire hard disk (using Knoppix) as Linux swap space with ID 82
After selecting to use the "Solaris Interactive" installation, everything proceeds okay until after the timezone information is entered. Some more messages are then displayed to screen before the installation halts with:
No disks found > Check to make sure disks are cabled and powered up.
Hitting F2 at this point brings up the shell. At the shell, "format" cannot find any disks, and sysdef and prtconf indicate that the driver is not attached. However, I can navigate to an (empty) directory under /devices/pci... corresponding to my HDD.
If I attempt to use the Solaris Device Configuration Assistant at the appropriate point in the install, it correctly finds my SATA controller and HDD. Both are displayed correctly in the menu item where boot devices are selected as:
[ ] DISK: Target 0:WDC WD12 00JD-00HBB0 on Silicon Image 3112 SATA Controller in PCI bus 1, Slot 8
Am I correct in thinking that detection here means that this controller (and drive) are supported in B72? Are there extra command line or boot parameters that I need to add to force recognition during the install process?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
