Smartview error: "You are in Free Form Mode.Please perform a Refresh..."

We are able to connect to APS server and retrieve data free form into Excel's Smartview. but when we try to submit data, we get message "You are in Free Form Mode. Please perform a Refresh before Submit". We performed a Refresh successfully, but it gave same message again when we tried to submit again.
Any idea what we are doing wrong.
